Meddie Brouillette was born on 25 July 1922 in Fowler, Indiana.  He was the son of Louis and Agnes Brouillette.  He had a brother Marvin who also served during the war, and three sisters (Florence, Mary, and Phyllis.)  He also had a dog whom he loved named Shep.  He graduated from high school in 1940 and enlisted on 11 November 1942.  He was the ball turret gunner on a B-17 Flying Fortress whose crew also included Gilbert Malrait (navigator) and Francis Beck (bombardier.)  On 4 April 1944, this bomber was shot down during a raid on Bucharest, Romania. Malrait is buried in an isolated grave in Ronse, Belgium and Beck is buried in the Ardennes American Cemetery.
