Harris Melvin Beecher was born on 16 August 1920 in Aitkin County, Minnesota.  He was the son of Harry C. Beecher and Martha (Osterheim) Beecher. He had six sisters, Marion, Harriet, Lenore, Charlotte, Daphne and Wanda and one brother, Milton. Harris left home before his 19th birthday and moved to Denver County, Colorado.  He entered the service on 13 July 1942.  While visiting Denver on leave from the Army, he married Edna Ash on 9 April 1943.  He shipped to Europe in December 1942 and was assigned to the HQ Battery of the 54th Anti Aircraft Artillery (AAA) Brigade.  On 8 April 1945 he was driving a truck near the village of Corbion in the Province of Namur in Belgium. The truck hit a high bank and flippped over, pinning Harris underneath and killing him instantly.
