Roland C. Boulter was born in 1921 in Norfolk County, Massachusetts.  He was the son of Curtis Lord and Mary McDonald Boulter.  Roland’s mother passed away in June of 1922 when Roland was only eight months old. He was raised by his father and Curtis’s third wife Anna. Roland’s father had several children by his first wife, so Roland had several half siblings who were much older than him. Roland graduated from Walpole High School (MA) in 1939. From his high school yearbook, it is clear that he was nicknamed Chappy, that he belonged to the Glee Club, and that he played baseball, basketball, and tennis. He wanted to become an Architectural Engineer. 
Roland entered the USAAF on 21 July 1942, and was assigned to the 786 Bomb Squadron of the 466 Bomb Group.  He was the Navigator on a B-24 Liberator that was piloted by Kenneth Kessenger.  On 8 April 1944, the crew was shot down over Germany.
The bomber’s pilot, Kenneth R. Kessenger, and crew member Albert English are also buried at the Ardennes American Cemetery.
