William (Bill) P. Calhoun was born on 1 April 1923 in Schelocta, Pennsylvania.  He was the son of Mr. and Mrs. W.W. Calhoun.  He had two brothers, Frederick and Raymond, and two sisters, Hazel and Ethel.  Before the war, he was an Assistant Manager at the Farmer’s Exchange in Brookville, Pennsylvnia.
He entered the service on 3 February 1943 and was assigned to the 60thInfantry Reigment of the 9thDivision. On 6 September 1944, Bill and the other members of his unit were taken prisoner and sent to Stalag III-C in Alt Drewitz bei Küstrin in Germany on 30 September.  On 31 January 1945, the camp was liberated by the Red Army.  However, the following day Bill and other prisoners were killed when they were struck by artillery.  Bill served his time as a POW with Orville Parsons who became his best friend.  In the attached obituary, Parsons talks about his life with Bill in the POW camp.
