Jack M. Jarrell Jr. was born on 18 July 1922.  He was the son of Jack M. and Evilla Jarrell of Bishop, Texas.  He was shot down near Wiesbaden in Germany on 15 December 1945. 

The following information, provided by Carla Mans, appears to be taken from a book by Jay Jones entitled, The 370th Fighter Group in World War II:
Statement from 2nd Lt W.W. Morrison, Air Corps: "The 485th Fighter Squadron went down on some Me 109's. We dove from 23,000 feet to the deck. There was a dogfight, which lasted about 15 minutes. Just as the squadron was reforming, I noticed a ship just starting to feather his left prop. I tacked onto his wing. His left engine was trailing a small streamer of white smoke, which steadily grew thicker and darker. After about five minutes, flame broke out, and Lt Jarrell started to bail out. The ship went into a spin to the right. I saw Lt Jarrell's chute open and followed him down from about 5,000 to 2,000 feet. I saw him land in a wood, his chute hanging up on the treetops. In the dogfight, we encountered some small arms flak." 
Robert Jones, former 1st Lt pilot with 485 Squdadron recalls: “On December 14th, 1944 Jack was shot down near Wiesbaden. It was reported by flight members that he was seen bail out and his chute open and descend into a wooded area. For many years I kept in touch with the U.S. Army Graves Registration Office, ironically located in the old Luftwaffe Interrogation Center at Oberursel, Germany. Not a single report was ever recorded relative to the faith of Jack until that office closed in 1975. Just prior to the 485th reunion in Myrtle Beach in 2001 I contacted the Graves registration Office at the Pentagon regarding Jack. Their response was, in effect, nothing new to report. Jack was the only child and his loss was devastating to his parents." 
Jack M. Jarrell, Jr. designed the insignia for his fighter group that won over many entries, even those by Walt Disney.
