A. W. Lain was the husband of Mrs. Juanita Lain.  He graduated from New London High School.  Before the war, he worked for the J.C. Penny Company and the Earle North Buick Company.  He entered the service in October 1942.  He served as a tail gunner on a bomber that was shot down while bombing the Yakia Apollo Oil Refinery near Bratislava, Czechoslovakia on 16 June 1944.  He was 21 years old.
