William V. Marvin was the son of Mr. and Mrs. Verne Marvin of Greene, New York.  He had a brother, Richard, who also served during the war and a sister, Mrs. Newton Boyce.  He graduated from the Greene Central School, and was married to Edna Barstow Marvin.  William joined the USAAF on 22 June 1942, and shipped to Europe in October of 1943.  He was a Bombardier on a B-17 Flying Fortress, piloted by First Lieutenant John Rich.  William was returning from his 24th mission when the bomber was shot down near Hannover, Germany on 11 April 1944.
