Ezra Stein was born in 1925 in New York County (Manhattan), New York. He was the son of Samuel R. Stein and Bertha Landres. Ezra had a sister, Ruth, and a brother Elihu. They lived in Manhattan.  He graduated from High School, and then enlisted in the Army on 12 July 1943.  He served in the 121st Infantry Regiment of the 8th Infantry Division.  He was Killed in Action on 17 December 1944 near the village of Roetgen, German in the Hürtgen Forest.
