John W. Wilson was the pilot of a B-17 that was part of the 401st Bomber Squadron of the 91st Bomber Group.  On 17 April 1943, it was on a mission to bomb Bremen, Germany when it was attacked by both enemy fighters and anti-aircraft artillery.  It crashed near Bassum, Germany, 12 miles south of Bremen.  The bomber’s tail gunner, Robert H. Ade, waist gunner, Walter Bohaczyk, and ball turret gunner, Gilbert Andrews are also buried at the Ardennes American Cemetery.
