Britt Maxwell was born in 1925 in Cumberland, North Carolina.  He had two younger brothers.  He went to high school for one year.  Britt entered the service on 30 July 1943. and served as the tail gunner on the crew of Lt. Dan W. Means.  On 2 October 1944, German fighters attacked the bomber near Hamm Germany.  Two engines were set on fire. Three members of the crew were able to bail out, but the others, including Britt, perished.  Dan Means, the pilot, Raymond Rhodes, the flight engineer/top turret gunner, and Lincoln Ricker, who was serving as the bombardier, are also buried at the Ardennes American Cemetery.
