William R. Thorpe Jr. was a navigator on a B-17 that was nicknamed Sly Fox.  On 6 March 1944 it was on a mission to bomb Berlin when it was attacked by enemy aircraft.  It crashed near Gross Mimmelage in Germany.  Zeb Kendall Jr. (pilot), Clifford L. Gowen (bombardier), Leman E Tutor (radio operator) Reginaldo Aguila (ball turrett gunner), and Raymond L. Bridges (waste gunner) are also buried at the Ardennes American Cemetery.
