William Edward Bacon was born on 31 January 1918 in Billings Montana.  He was the son of Edward and Wilda Bacon.  He had an older sister named Eleanor.  His father grew up in Kentucky and had served in WWI. When William was a young child his parents divorced, and his mother married Charles Reed in 1922.  At some point, William and his mother moved to Denver, Colorado where William worked for the Texas Company before the war.  William was assigned to the 23rd Engineer Battalion of the 7th Armored Division.  This battalion was responsible for road and bridge construction, allowing the army to move artillery and troops.  He was died on 17 September 1944 at the age of 26.
