Kimbro was a young Texan farm boy who was just married when he was drafted in 1941.  He was among the Allied forces that landed at Normandy during the D-Day invasion.  During the Battle of the Bulge on 19 December 1944, he was leading a squad with the objective of laying mines on a crossroads occupied by German troops.  Under heavy ennemy fire, Kimbro told his squad to stay back while he crawled alone to the crossroads.  He managed to lay several mines but was killed by machine gun fire when he was returning to his position.  His courage delayed the advance of the enemy armor  and prevented the rear of a retreating US column from being attacked.  He was awarded the Medal of Honor for this action.
