William H. Hess was born on 13 July 1915, the son of Mr. and Mrs. William P. Hess of Lyons, New York.  He had a sister and two brothers, both of whom also were in the service.  He attended Lyons High School and then worked for the New York Central Railroad.  He joined the service on 16 January 1941.  He served in Tunisia where he was wounded in combat, and sent to the USA for treatment.  He returned to Europe in October of 1944, and was Killed in Action in Germany on 5 January 1945.
