Reed Cory was born on 23 August 1908.  He was the son of Mr. and Mrs. Thorley E. Cory.  He had four brothers (Nobel, Fred, Carl and Fay) and one sister (Helen.)  Reed was married to Mildred Cory, and they lived at 1521 Roache Street in Indianapolis, Indiana.  He graduated from Valley Mills High School and worked for his father in the construction business before the war. 

Reed joined the Army on 22 September 1943 and was assigned to the 16th Infantry Regiment of the 1st Infantry Division.  Reed landed at Omaha Beach in Normandy on D-Day and, with the exception of one month when he was hospitalized, saw continuous action through the Battle of the Bulge.  On 15 January 1945, Reed was Killed in Action near Faymonville, Belgium when the 1st Infantry Division began its counter-attack against the Germans.
