Andrew (Andy) Alcroft was the son of Mr. and Mrs. Albert Alcroft of Youngstown, Ohio.  He had two brothers, one of whom was also in the service.  Andy married Cora Wallace, and they had a son name Andy Jr. who was only two years old when his father died. The Alcroft family clearly loved golf.  Andy was the golf pro at the Mahoning Country Club.  His father was the golf pro at the Youngstown Country Club. His brother James was the assistant golf pro at the Portage Country Club. 

Andy joined the service in 1942.  He shipped overseas in July of 1944.  He was promoted to Sergeant and was wounded in the leg in Germany.  After recovering from his wound, he asked to be demoted to Private First Class saying that “he was glad to fight, but did not want to be responsible for the lives of men serving under him anymore.”  He was Killed in Action in Germany on 20 November 1944.
