This Memorial Day ceremony commemorates Private Robert Opsomer of the 131st Infantry Regiment of the 33rd Division who died in World War I.  Opsomer was born in Deinze, and emigrated to Wayne County, Michigan in 1909.  He volunteered for the United States Army in 1917 and was killed in action on 12 August 1918 at Vaux-sur-Somme in France.
