Earl E. Eichelberger was born in Hagerstown, Maryland.  He was the son of Mr. and Mrs. John M. Eichelberger of 347 West Antietam Street, Hagerstown, Maryland.  He had four brothers.  William, Paul, Kreps, and Kenneth.  All five of the Eichelberger’s sons served during the war.  He also had seven sisters:  Gloria Ann, Jo Ann, Dorothy, Mildred, Nellie, Leitha and Thelma. Earl and his wife Madelene had a daughter, Phyis Ann who was a year and half old when he died. Before the war, he was employed by D.A. Stickwell and Sons.Earl was assigned to the 309th Infantry Regiment of the 78th Infantry Division.  The Regiment participated in the crossing of the Rhine at Remagen.  Earl was killed on 14 March 1945 while his unit was pushing to expand the bridgehead in the area of Himberg-Rottbitz, Germany.
