Gilbert Andrews was the ball turret gunner of a B-17 that was part of the 401st Bomber Squadron of the 91stBomber Group.  On 17 April 1943, it was on a mission to bomb Bremen, Germany when it was attacked by both enemy fighters and anti-aircraft artillery.  It crashed near Bassum, Germany, 12 miles south of Bremen.  The bomber’s pilot, John W. Wilson, tail gunner, Robert H. Ade, and waist gunner, Walter Bohaczyk, are also buried at the Ardennes American Cemetery.
